Struggling with Math Questions? Here are solutions!

     Struggling with Math Questions?

Here are solutions!

Every Math question is not easy, you have to think, but sometimes you will be stuck on one problem that will only give you nothing but frustration. Most of the time, I would be stuck on math questions for days thinking for a way to solve it, It is so annoying to be stuck on the same question when others are doing them without hesitation. So these are the methods which I follow to overcome the frustrations. I hope these methods will definitely help you,

1. Drawing a sketch that illustrates what the question says,

Let's say that you are trying to solve a question about calculating the volume of solids or an essay type question about fractions as H/W or in an exam paper. Exam is the worst place to have such struggle. So whenever you struggle to understand what the question says, take out a clear paper that you use to do calculations or find a blank place on your paper and start sketching what the question says step by step. Most of the time, you will find this way is much better.

2. Simplify the question by assigning variables,

Check this question, here when you multiply the terms in the left side, it will give x to the power of 4, which is not ideal to work. So to make this little easy, let's replace,
𝑥² − 9𝑥 = t or 𝑥² − 9𝑥 +15 = t
Then we can rewrite the question like this,
for 𝑥² − 9𝑥 = t ,
(t + 15)(t + 20) = 6
for 𝑥² − 9𝑥 + 15  = t,
t (t+5) = 6
Now we will not have 4th power of x, so the question is much more friendly than before!

3. Estimate how the steps would go,

Before starting to solve a question in a fraction of a second, spend some time on analyzing the question and estimate how the steps would be to get the answer. Because sometimes you might be going a long way to get the answer if you didn't analyze it. You might find a shortcut on getting the answer. Math is not all about getting an answer. It is steps, the algorithm you use to get the answer.

4. Memorize tricks and rules,

Sometimes your approach to the answer is very complicated because of not knowing common math tricks, Try memorizing the expansions of binomials , trigonometric values of some specific angles like 30, 60, 90 so you can guess the limitation of the answer, like predicting what the answer should be...

5. Find familiar patterns in question,

Let's say you got a geometry question that has a confusing diagram which you can't even think about, First don't be frustrated. Look carefully at the diagram and find something you know, maybe there can be parallel lines and some kind of evidence that you need to prove a theory. If you notice one, give the kick-start to solve and you will get the answer.

Great for arithmetic or verifying long calculations.

6. Once you got the answer, reverse what you did!

Suppose that you got the answer and aren't sure if it is correct or not, because it is not an answer you've expected, it can be. So whenever you are facing such coincidence, just reverse what you did...

 >> Something important

> If you are too much frustrated on not getting the answer, don't worry, take a rest and take time. Time will help you to solve it.
> Never get unmotivated because of one question that you faced hard. You will be able to solve that question one day if you work efficiently

Summary

From this post, these are the methods that I use as a student, maybe these methods might have already given by your teacher. So always listen to what they say, discuss with friends how those methods helped them to be good at studies. So follow these steps whenever you feel impossible to find the value of x (answer)....
